The Artificial Intelligence team at Securitas is employing the power of AI to drive efficiency and bolster security measures.

Using AI to power business efficiency

With the advent of advanced AI models such as Large Language Models (LLM) and deep learning neural networks, the integration of AI into all facets of operations and business functions is becoming increasingly feasible. With AI becoming more and more woven into the fabric of security services and solutions, organizations can gain greater benefits and efficiencies.

Daniel Sandberg, director of the Artificial Intelligence team at Securitas, shares valuable insights into the company’s data-driven AI strategy and implementation:

“With the emergence of LLM models and deep learning neural networks, it’s becoming achievable to integrate AI in all parts of our operations and all parts of the business. In the coming years, I think we’ll have AI involved in everything we do", Daniel says.

By leveraging LLM models, the team explores the possibility of enhancing communication and language processing capabilities within Securitas’ operations. These models can be employed to automate and optimize various tasks, such as generating accurate and coherent written content, providing real-time language translation, and analyzing vast amounts of textual data for valuable insights.

For organizations, deep learning neural networks can offer expanded security services and enhanced protection. For example, these networks excel in learning patterns and detecting anomalies, enabling advanced threat detection and prevention. AI systems equipped with deep learning capabilities can analyze security camera feeds, identify potential risks or suspicious activities, and generate alerts for immediate response.

Another AI integration is represented by predictive analytics powered by AI algorithms, which can optimize staffing and scheduling, helping to ensure that the right number of security specialists is deployed at the right time and location. AI can also be utilized for resource allocation, route optimization, and demand forecasting, improving operational efficiency and reducing costs.

Enhanced AI-driven security operations

Securitas is transitioning toward a comprehensive data-driven approach. Embracing a data-driven approach means, in this case, harnessing the power of AI to make informed decisions and provide tailored services. By doing so, the company can significantly enhance its operational efficiency which, in exchange, benefits the clients. It leads to 1) improved client experience, 2) faster problem resolution, 3) personalized recommendations, 4) timely communication, 5) risk management and 6) efficient resource allocation.

The objectives of the AI team are tightly linked to Securitas’ ambition of becoming a data-driven organization. “We have a strategy to become data driven, and we must execute on that,” Daniel says. “Becoming data driven is allowing AI to help us make decisions based on data, to increase our efficiency and ensure that we do the right thing at the right time.”

One example of this is the use of AI and data to help streamline client service and optimize resource allocation – helping to minimize service delay and indirect costs. Collaboration with other teams, such as engineering and product management, is vital for the effective integration of AI into overall product development and strategy. Product managers collaborate closely with the AI team, providing insights into customer needs and creating backlogs that demand AI models tailored to specific use cases.

Integrating technology and people for the future of security

Addressing the security industry's emerging challenges, the AI team recognizes the shortage of skilled security officers. AI plays a crucial role in overcoming this issue by equipping security specialists with advanced tools that enable them to monitor larger areas, detect issues earlier, and provide enhanced security without solely relying on additional manpower.

“The biggest contribution AI can bring to the security industry is to solve the specialist shortages by introducing tools that will allow existing security professionals to automate some of their tasks and expand their responsibility portfolio. By integrating technology and people, we can increase the value and the output for clients”, Daniel says.

Looking ahead, Daniel envisions AI seamlessly integrating into every aspect of security operations. Securitas remains at the forefront, leveraging powerful technologies to solve complex challenges, increase efficiency, and empower organizations to make data-driven decisions.
