In this edition, meet Jonas Wolwan, head of client management in Sweden, whose journey from security officer to deputy regional manager and Securitas Toolbox training expert spans three decades.
Q&A with Jonas Wolwan
Can you tell us about your journey at Securitas?
I joined Securitas in 1991 after my military service. I started as a security officer and worked my way through various roles, from car parking lot security to beat patrolling, and even a day officer in a mall. My passion and willingness to learn led me to become a team leader and later a branch manager and deputy regional manager. I've always been interested in business, and that drive landed me in sales in Uppsala. Now, as head of client management in Sweden, I focus more on the commercial side, handling client meetings, commercial action plans, and business strategies.
As part of my current role, I’m responsible for training managers across Sweden on the Securitas Toolbox, which is our way of instilling our company culture and values within our global workforce. It contains seven tools – each one representing a core principle we live by every day. It's a tool that not only benefits individuals but also ignites a spark that helps us carry the Securitas torch going forward.
How does your background as a security officer contribute to your effectiveness in your current role?
My background as a security officer provides a unique perspective that's been invaluable in my current role. It's taught me to be hands-on, to understand the challenges our officers face, and to appreciate the importance of teamwork. These lessons from my early days are always present in my work, and they guide my decisions and strategies.
You’ve mentioned the ‘Securitas spirit’ before – what do you mean by that?
The Securitas spirit isn’t some magical entity within our company; it's our people. I credit the people around me for much of my success. They've given me opportunities to grow and develop, and that support has been invaluable. I’ve been so lucky to have managers throughout my career who have allowed me to spread my wings and let me experience for myself how to solve different problems, while at the same time teaching me important lessons.
What traits do you believe are most important for someone to excel at Securitas?
Fearlessness and a willingness to try new things have been crucial to my journey. I've always been the one to raise my hand and take on new challenges. I encourage others to do the same. Don't be afraid to try, don't be afraid to fail. In an environment where you feel supported by your team, magic can happen. Seeing the potential in people is another quality I value.
Looking ahead, how do you plan to continue making a positive impact on Securitas and your colleagues?
I plan to stay with Securitas and keep raising my hand to contribute wherever I can. I want to stay relevant and help the company evolve and succeed in the coming years. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else; I love my work, and it makes me feel good to contribute to this great company.
What are some of your personal interests or hobbies that you enjoy outside of work?
I have various interests outside of work, from playing disc golf and running to spending time with my three daughters and enjoying outdoor activities like fishing, water skiing, and skiing in the winter. These personal interests teach me the importance of balance and enjoying life outside of work, which I believe is essential to bringing a positive perspective to the job.
